Siemens Updates Kasa Engineers

Kasa engineers receiving Siemens training

Kasa recently had more than a dozen engineers receive training on Siemens programmable logic controllers, human machine interfaces, and operator hardware. Many of the engineers who were trained were recently hired and are helping ensure Kasa has a broad and diverse engineering base in the years to come.

Kasa’s focus on international growth is one of the reasons we chose to increase our capabilities and knowledge of the Siemens industrial products. Many of our customers and prospects with an international presence choose to automate their facilities with Siemens.

Purpose of Mission Statements

I don't know if this relates to any of you, but I hated seeing mission statements that were just a bunch of blah, blah, blah. And, I never quite understood how to position an internal mission statement and one that I shared with my customers. I still remember a boss telling me our mission statement was to "beat competitor XYZ". I really didn't think I could share that mission statement with our customers.

The Advantage written by Patrick Lencioni, was recommended by a customer and it has helped me understand how to build the strategies that are essential to a company's survival. Below is an excerpt from the author's website:

Create Clarity

Creating alignment at the executive level is essential to building and maintaining a healthy organization. There is probably no greater frustration for employees than having to navigate the politics and confusion caused by leaders who are misaligned. Even the slightest bit of daylight between executive team members can cause an overwhelming effect on employees below.

There are six simple but critical questions that need to be answered, eliminating all discrepancies among team members. The six critical questions include:

  1. Why do we exist?

The answer to this question will yield a core purpose, or the fundamental reason the company is in business.

  2. How do we behave?

This question examines behaviors and values required for success.

  3. What do we do?

This answer provides a simple, direct explanation of the business.

  4. How will we succeed?

This question requires the team members to develop a strategy.

  5. What is most important, right now?

The answer to this question is the establishment of a unifying thematic goal and action plan.

  6. Who must do what?
This question addresses roles and responsibilities.

picture of groupAll of this can only happen after you build a cohesive leadership team who must master five behaviors:

  1. Building Trust
  2. Mastering Conflict
  3. Achieving Commitment
  4. Embracing Accountability
  5. Focusing on Results

Excel Tip

Have you ever had a column of numbers that you wanted to total, but some of the cells have #N/A from a formula? If you put in the formula, SUM(b1:b11), you would end up with a #N/A for the results.

If you want the sum but don't want to find and replace all of the #N/A's, then you could use SUMIF(B1:B42,"<>#N/A), resulting in a sum of the numbers.
